Monthly Club Schedule
24 Karat Club

This club is an honorary club
designed to give incentive recognition to eight different outstanding
students from each of the ninth, tenth and eleventh grades. Students are
chosen in the categories of academic excellence, good citizenship,
excellence in the arts, and outstanding athlete.
AIM High Mentoring
-Sponsor:

AIM High
Mentoring is a mentoring program designed to target and help "at risk"
students, grades 10 to 12 as mentors for the younger students. Potential
mentors should have at least a "C" average, be responsible and dependable
and have no more than 3 disciplinary referrals. There is no deadline. See
Mrs. Mashburn, room 2209, for an application.
DECA (Distributive
Ed.) -Sponsor:

Any student
who is enrolled in Coordinated Studies Marketing or Co-op can become a
member. DECA attends many competitions throughout the year to compete
against other students in Alabama. In the years past Sheffield has had a
student (Daniel Seitz) to place in the top 10 in the State of Alabama. We
have also attended many conferences including National Competition in
California and the New York Experience in New York City.
FBLA (Future
Business Leaders) -Sponsor:

Future Business Leaders of
America-Phi Bet Lambda is a non profit Education Association, with over a
quarter-million students preparing for careers in business and business
related fields. FBLA is the largest business career students organization
in the world. Our mission is to bring business and education together in a
positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career
development programs. Any student who is enrolled in the class Business
Technology Essentials or Integrated Computer Technology can become a member.
FCCLA (Family,
Career and Community Leaders)

To provide
opportunities for personal development and preparations for adult life. To
strengthen the function of the family as a basic unit of society.
First Priority

Christian
young people who meet once a week for fellowship, worship and prayer. First
Priority takes the lead in sponsoring events such as, See You At the Pole,
True Love Waits, Prom Promise, and Red Ribbon Week.

Foreign Language

The Foreign
Language Club is open to all students interested in learning about other
peoples and cultures. Through a variety of activities we explore foods,
music, and customs associated with the language that we study.
Interact Club
-Sponsor:

Interact, a
contraction of "International" and "Action", is an organization of over 9000
clubs in 120 countries and is sponsored by Rotary International. Its purpose
is the development of leadership, teamwork, personal responsibility, and
international understanding. The Sheffield Club was organized in 1967 and
has engaged in a variety of activities including the March of Dimes, Special
Olympics, the Adopt-A-Mile program (the nation's first), Children's'
Christmas Parties, Career Days annually, and sponsoring eight children
through the Christian Children's' Fund. It is one of the world's best-known
clubs, having been featured in International Rotary publications six times.

The
Sheffield High School Junior R.O.T.C. program was established in 2004. Led
by two retired Army leaders, J.R.O.T.C. at Sheffield High School inspires
patriotism and encourages young people to be better citizens.
Keller Club

Keller Club
is a service organization for girls. It was started in 1995 when the Anchor
and TRI-HI-Y Clubs merged. The goal of the Keller Club is for young ladies
to take leadership roles in school and community service projects.
Key Club

The world’s
largest student led service organization. Membership is open to all students
in grades 9-12 that possess a desire to serve their school, community and
nation.
Mass Communications

Mass
Communications is a journalism class open to all students in grades nine
through twelve. The class meets in the fall of the year and focuses on
producing the school newspaper, Hilites. Students in this class are
involved in all aspects of creating the paper and are expected to write,
edit layout, design, print, and deliver the Hilites. In the past, the
journalism class has attended journalism conferences at the University of
Alabama in Tuscaloosa and at Columbia University in New York. At these
conferences, students have the opportunity to attend seminars on journalism
and compete in the areas of news writing, layout and design, and
photography. In 2006 a Sheffield student won first place in the state wide
photography contest at the ASPA conference at the University of Alabama.

Mass
Communications is the class responsible for publishing the school newspaper.
Any student may sign up for the class. Students in Mass Comm learn about
journalism, writing and layout, printing and distributing a publication.
Scholars Bowl
-Sponsor:

Open to any
student grades 9-12. Ideal for students that like trivia and the challenge
of responding quickly.
Student Council

The Student
Council is comprised of students from all four grades who are responsible
and want to participate in the decision-making process for major school
events such as Homecoming and Spring Fling. Any student can volunteer to be
on the student council but officers must maintain good grades and behavior.
The president of the student council is one of the most prestigious
positions a student can hold. The entire student body votes on the student
council officers.
Upward Bound

Upward Bound is
an after school tutoring program that pays kids to stay after school
to do their homework. It is sponsored by Northwest Shoals and meets one
afternoon a week. Students participating in Upward Bound also get to go on
field trips on Saturdays and during the summer. It is a fun way to make
money!
Yearbook

Students my
apply to be on yearbook staff each spring. The staff selection is based on
the application and teacher recommendations. The yearbook students are
responsible for the content, design, and layout of the yearbook. In order to
fulfill these responsibilities, students meet as a class during the second
semester.
