A Great Beginning:
Threadgill Primary houses all of Sheffield City School's pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first, and second grade classes. The school is named in loving memory of former principal Mr. W.A. Threadgill. An exciting learning environment is provided by a caring, dedicated staff.
Technology:
A technology plan that has been in place since 1992 has placed Threadgill Primary at the forefront in providing students and teachers with the tools they need to succeed. Each classroom is equipped with a telephone, television, and VCR. Writing to Read, Writing to Write, Stories and More, KidWare and Accelerated Reader are available to children through 100 networked computers. Students also have access to 28 stand alone computers with additional software. Each classroom is equipped with computers and Internet connection. The Threadgill library is fully automated and also houses Internet connections for student and staff use.
Language:
Kindergartners and first graders visit one of two Writing to Read labs daily. Second graders continue the progression of this language arts program in the classroom. Second grade classrooms are equipped with multiple computers and a printer to facilitate individual progress.
Reading:
The internationally recognized Accelerated Reader program is used to supplement reading experiences and enhance comprehension skills for students. Students are able to take computerized comprehension tests from any of the networked computer workstations throughout the school.
Math & Science:
Math and Science curricula are expanded through the use of countless carefully selected manipulatives and activities with Math their Way and Developmental Activities in Science and Health (DASH). Students are stimulated with hands-on experiences on indoor and outdoor settings.
